Jaipur: In a heartwarming gesture, the new born Tiger cub from Rajasthan has been named after  renowned Paralympic medalist Avani Lekhara . The announcement was made on International Tiger Day by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who revealed that the three cubs of tigress T-111 have been named Avani, Chiranjeevi, and Chirayu. This unique tribute to Avani Lekhara comes as a symbol of pride and recognition for her remarkable achievements.

Avani Lekhara, a native of Jaipur, has earned widespread acclaim and accolades for her exceptional performance at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. The talented athlete secured a historic gold medal in the 10-metre air rifle standing event, becoming the first Indian woman to achieve this feat. Additionally, she bagged a bronze medal in the 50-metre rifle 3-position category, further showcasing her prowess and determination.

The state of Rajasthan has a history of naming tigers after distinguished individuals, with the tiger T-17 famously named after the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Krishna Poonia. This tradition of associating tigers with celebrated personalities not only honours the individuals but also promotes awareness about tiger conservation.

Ranthambore, located in Rajasthan, has been blessed with the birth of six tiger cubs in the past month, offering a glimmer of hope for the conservation efforts of this endangered species. Among these cubs, the one named after Avani Lekhara holds a special place, symbolising the extraordinary achievements and resilience of humans and wildlife.
