Controversy surrounds ‘OMG 2’ as CBFC demands modifications: Film secures ‘A’ certificate

Mumbai: The much-anticipated Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘OMG 2’ has finally received its censor certificate from the Central Board for Film Certificate (CBFC). However, the film has not been spared from controversy, as the CBFC asked for certain modifications, ultimately granting it an ‘A’ certificate. This marks Akshay Kumar’s first film in 12 years to receive such a certification, with his last A-certified film being ‘Desi Boyz’, released back in 2011.

The film, ‘OMG 2’, had been under scrutiny due to its religious angle, prompting the Examining Committee (EC) of the CBFC to refer it to the Revising Committee (RC) to ensure compliance with sensitive subjects. Recent clearances of films such as ‘Adipurush’ and ‘Oppenheimer’, both dealing with religious themes, raised concerns among certain sections of the audience, leading to criticism of the CBFC’s decisions.

The RC recommended specific cuts and modifications in the film to grant it a ‘U/A’ certificate, which would allow a wider audience to view the movie. However, the makers, unwilling to compromise the sanctity of the film, decided to stick with an ‘A’ certificate, restricting its viewership to adults while respecting the integrity of the storyline and adhering to the norms set by the censor board.

A source revealed that after thorough deliberation with the makers, the film was passed without any deletions. “There are no cuts in the film; only a few modifications were made, which the makers discussed with the censor board members,” the source stated.

With the censorship certificate in hand, the film’s makers are now gearing up for an extensive marketing campaign. ‘OMG 2’ is slated to hit theatres on August 11, where it will go head-to-head with the highly-anticipated Sunny Deol-starrer ‘Gadar 2’. The clash between the two legacy films is eagerly awaited by fans, with both films commanding a massive following.
