In a significant departure from tradition, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) logo, as well as the jersey sponsor Dream XI, will be absent from the Indian cricket team’s jerseys for the upcoming Asian Games. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) logo will take the place of the BCCI emblem, while the jersey will bear the logo of Asian Games team sponsors JSW. This shift marks the first time in over five decades that the Indian cricket team will step onto the field without the distinctive BCCI insignia.
The decision to exclude the BCCI logo from the jerseys was driven by the fact that teams participating in the Asian Games fall under the jurisdiction of the Indian Olympic Association. This ruling aligns with the practise that other sports teams, including the Indian football team, have been following, where the jerseys do not feature the respective sports’ governing body logos. In this instance, the All India Football Association’s (AIFF) logo will also be omitted from the Indian football team’s jerseys.
While the women’s cricket team had previously worn jerseys without their team logo during the Commonwealth Games, the omission of the BCCI logo from the men’s jersey is a rare occurrence. The change is primarily attributed to the distinct regulatory structure of the Asian Games, where the focus shifts to the larger representation of the nation under the Indian Olympic Association.
