Mumbai: Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has responded to the fervent wishes of fans by revealing the highly anticipated third installment of his iconic Don series. However, in an intriguing twist, he has chosen to reboot the franchise, and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan will not be reprising his iconic role. Farhan has now officially announced that the charismatic Ranveer Singh is set to take on the mantle of Don.
In an exciting unveiling on Wednesday, the creative team behind Don 3, led by director Farhan Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani, shared a tantalizing first look at the upcoming film. This captivating preview also served as the official introduction of Ranveer Singh as the new face of Don. The announcement video boasts breathtaking visuals and an electrifying musical score.
Ranveer exudes a commanding presence in his fresh avatar. The teaser intriguingly begins with an obscured view of his character as he cryptically utters, “When will the one who’s asleep awaken, they all ask. Tell them that I have awakened once again and am about to reveal myself soon.” The intensity builds as he loads a gun, asserting, “What is my strength, what is my courage, I shall soon demonstrate. Playing with death is my way of life; conquering is my sole purpose. And you all already know my name.” In a nod to the iconic dialogue from Don, he coolly ignites a cigarette while repeating, “The police of 11 countries are after me, but who has managed to capture me? I am Don.” The teaser concludes with a striking shot of Ranveer’s visage, accompanied by the resonant theme of Don.
While naysayers and SRK fans of the previous Don are in splits to see him get re-casted from the role, it is exciting to see a fresh rendition of a character that has transcended decades since its first iteration by Amithabh Bachchan in the 1978 version of the film.
The anticipation had been set in motion by Farhan Akhtar, who confirmed the forthcoming third chapter of the Don saga. A video was shared, unveiling the emblematic ‘3’ logo alongside the tagline, “A new era begins.” Farhan expressed his admiration for the performances of Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan in the iconic role of Don, while also hinting at a fresh iteration of the character. He voiced his hope for the new actor to receive the same adoration from audiences, stating, “The time has come to carry forward the legacy of Don. Joining us in this exciting new interpretation is an actor whose talent and versatility I have long respected. We trust that you will shower upon him the affection you so generously bestowed upon Mr. Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.”
According to media reports, it has been revealed that the teaser for Don 3 will make its debut alongside the prints of Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, releasing on August 11. The much-anticipated Don 3 is slated for a cinematic release in 2025.
