Pune: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made a significant advancement on Friday as it took into custody Shamil Saquib Nachan, a key suspect in the Pune ISIS module case, for his purported active engagement in promoting terrorist activities associated with the ISIS terror group. This marks the sixth apprehension made by the NIA in connection with this case.

Shamil Saquib Nachan was residing in Tane, Maharashtra, and was found to be deeply implicated in the manufacturing, training, and experimentation of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) intended for the commission of acts of terrorism. Shamil’s father, Saquib Nachan, had previously been convicted and served a ten-year sentence for his involvement in the 2002 triple blast incident at Mumbai Central, Vile Parle, and Mulund railway stations.

Shamil’s collaboration extended to five other accused individuals, namely Zulfikar Ali Barodawala, Mohammed Imran Khan, Mohammed Yunus Saki, Simab Nasiruddin Kazi, and Abdul Kadir Pathan, alongside several other individuals under suspicion. Among these, Imran Khan and Mohammed Yunus Saki were members of the ‘Sufa terrorist gang’ and were absconding. The NIA had declared them ‘most wanted’ in a case relating to recovery of explosives from a car in Rajasthan in April 2022.

The NIA said that the accused individuals had devised plans to execute acts of terrorism with the intention of disrupting the peace and communal concord within the nation. They had planned to wage a war against the government in furtherance of the ISIS agenda.
