Thiruvananthapuram: As per reports from the National Crime Records Bureau, over the course of the past six years, a total of 43,272 individuals, encompassing both girls and women, have been reported missing in Kerala. Among these cases, a reassuring 40,450 individuals were successfully located in various locations. Regrettably, the remaining individuals remain unaccounted for, indicating an ongoing concern.

The data presented spans from 2016 to 2021, revealing that among those who went missing, 37,367 were adult women and 5,905 were girls. Within this group, a positive outcome was achieved for 34,918 women and 5,532 children, as they were located and returned to safety. However, the records also indicate that 2,822 individuals, including girls, remain missing with no trace during this timeframe.

Notably, instances of missing girls were particularly pronounced in 2018, with a significant number reported missing. In the subsequent years, a similar pattern emerged, with 1,136 girls reported missing in 2019, highlighting an unfortunate consistency in these occurrences. This data underscores an unsettling trend where around a thousand girls and women go missing annually.
