New Delhi: Today marks the announcement of the 69th National Film Awards. At 5 pm in Delhi, Union Minister Anurag Thakur is set to unveil the recipients of the prestigious awards. The accolades are based on films released in the year 2021, with Malayalam cinema making a significant presence across various categories.

Noteworthy Malayalam films such as “Nayattu,” “Minnal Murali,” “Meppadiyan,” and “Home” are under consideration for inclusion in the list of best Malayalam films. The roster of potential winners includes Joju George for his compelling role in “Nayattu,” Biju Menon for his impactful performance in “Aarkkariyam,” and Indrans for his role in “Home,” all vying for a spot on the best actor list. The versatile R Madhavan-directed film “Rocketry: The Nambi Effect” is also in contention across multiple categories.

In the realm of best actress nominations, Alia Bhatt is being recognized for her portrayal in “Gangubai Kathiawadi,” while Kangana Ranaut’s depiction in “Thalaivi” has earned her a place in the running. The coveted Best Music Direction award sees Keeravani as a potential contender, courtesy of his exceptional music in the Oscar-winning “RRR.”

It’s worth noting that Malayalam cinema garnered an impressive eight awards at the previous 68th National Film Awards. Aparna Balamurali clinched the best actress award, while Biju Menon secured the title of best supporting actor, underscoring the industry’s prowess and talent.
