Thiruvananthapuram: As the vibrant festival of Onam approaches, the state is alive with bustling preparations and excitement. The week ahead promises a much-needed respite, with a series of holidays that have effectively kicked off the celebratory atmosphere.
Starting today, the state is enveloped in festive fervour as schools remain closed, marking the beginning of a holiday season that will continue until September 4. The occasion is none other than the illustrious harvest festival of Onam, which holds a special place in the hearts of Keralites.
The local administration has announced a series of holidays, turning the upcoming week into a cascade of leisure and merriment. Notably, August 26 through 31 are designated as bank holidays, giving people the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich cultural traditions and activities associated with Onam. Furthermore, from August 27 to 31, government offices will remain closed, providing employees with an extended break to partake in the festivities and spend time with their loved ones.
Adding to the list of closures, beverage outlets will observe a shutdown for three consecutive days from August 29 to September 1. Additionally, ration shops, a crucial part of daily life, will be closed on August 29, 30, and 31, with an exception for Sunday, August 27, when they will be operational. In lieu of this, a compensatory holiday has been granted on August 30, allowing citizens to manage their essentials without disruption.
