New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the appointment of new coaches for both the Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams as they prepare to represent the nation at the upcoming Asian Games in China. This significant development, reported by the Times of India, is expected to invigorate the teams as they aim for excellence in international competitions.
Men’s Team Coach: Former Indian cricket stalwart and National Cricket Academy Chairman, VVS Laxman, has been chosen to guide the Indian men’s cricket team. Laxman, celebrated for his elegance and expertise during his playing days, brings a wealth of experience and cricketing wisdom to the role. He is expected to inspire and mentor the team to perform at its best on the global stage.
Women’s Team Interim Coach: Former all-rounder Hrishikesh Kanitkar will serve as the interim coach for the Indian women’s cricket team. This decision comes ahead of the new home season, which commences in December. While Kanitkar will oversee the team’s preparations for the Asian Games, the BCCI plans to select a permanent coach for the women’s team by December. Kanitkar’s appointment is a testament to his cricketing acumen and his ability to provide guidance to the squad during this transitional period.
Bowling coaches and fielding coaches: The support staff for both teams has also seen notable additions. Former leg-spinner Sairaj Bahuthule will assume the role of the men’s team’s bowling coach, while Munish Bali will serve as the fielding coach. On the women’s side, Rajeeb Dutta will take up responsibilities as the bowling coach, and Suhadeep Ghosh will bring his expertise as the fielding coach.
The Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8, will be a crucial test for both teams. The Indian men’s cricket team, led by Rituraj Gaikwad, and the women’s team, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, will aim to make their mark on the international stage and bring glory to the nation.
