New Delhi: The Delhi Police Special Cell apprehended two individuals from Punjab on Thursday in connection with the display of pro-Khalistan graffiti and slogans, which had been painted across more than 5 metro stations in Delhi on August 27, according to officials.
The police stated that further inquiries are underway into the matter. Earlier, an incident was reported where the walls of multiple metro stations throughout Delhi were discovered vandalized with pro-Khalistan messages before the upcoming G20 summit. The summit is scheduled to take place in the capital city next month, with India assuming the presidency.
As indicated by a Delhi police spokesperson, a case has been filed under Section 153 A, Section 505 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and the Defacement Act. The defacement is believed to have been executed by suspected members of Sikh For Justice (SFJ), an organization associated with the separatist Khalistan Group. The defacement included pro-Khalistan slogans, raising security concerns in anticipation of the G20 Summit.
In the images shared by the Delhi Police, slogans such as “Delhi Banega Khalistan” (Delhi will become Khalistan) and “Khalistan Zindabad” (Long live Khalistan) were seen inscribed on the metro station walls. An official noted that Sikh For Justice also released raw footage showcasing the defaced Delhi Metro stations.
Authorities confirmed the defacement of the metro stations and assured that necessary legal actions were being pursued in response.
