Guwahati: A significant drug seizure unfolded in Assam’s Karimganj, where the Assam Police intercepted a petrol tanker carrying substantial illicit cargo. A total of 1,420 km of cannabis, a banned substance, was discovered concealed within the tanker’s tank as it attempted to enter Assam from a neighbouring state. This successful operation was executed by the Karimganj police at the Churaibari checkpost, based on credible intelligence. As a result of the operation, one individual has been taken into custody in connection with the case.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma publicly commended the Assam Police’s swift and effective action, expressing his appreciation on the microblogging platform, X (formerly Twitter).
Notably, this drug bust follows a recent incident in which Cachar police in Assam apprehended two drug smugglers and seized an astonishing 1.70 lakh drug pills valued at ₹35 crore. In a separate instance, a combined operation undertaken by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Karimganj Police resulted in the capture of 768 grams of heroin. These law enforcement efforts reflect the ongoing commitment to combat drug trafficking in the region.
