Srinagar: Protests have erupted in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, particularly in Gilgit-Baltistan, as people voice their discontent with the Pakistani government’s policies. The recent surge in fuel prices and electricity rates has taken a toll on the lives of the residents, prompting widespread demonstrations.
Skardu, a prominent city in Gilgit-Baltistan, has become a focal point for these protests. A video surfaced wherein local leaders urged the populace to dismantle border gates and head towards Kargil. In the video, these leaders expressed their firm resolve to no longer tolerate the Pakistani government’s actions, emphasising that they have crossed all boundaries. The authorities responded by detaining notable individuals who voiced their dissent against the government.

Similar large-scale protests against the steep increases in fuel and electricity prices are occurring throughout Pakistan. Presently, petrol is priced at Rs 305 per litre, with a staggering overnight increase of 14.91 rupees. High-speed petrol is even more costly at Rs 311.84. Unfortunately, the measures implemented to address the economic crisis have only compounded Pakistan’s problems.
The electricity crisis has reached a critical point, particularly impacting major cities like Karachi and Peshawar. The severe power shortage has forced numerous significant businesses to suspend operations due to the lack of electricity, and it has also resulted in the cessation of activities in factories and manufacturing units.
