KOLLAM: Kottarakkara taluk hospital’s security staff faced an assault when a patient visiting the hospital for treatment lashed out. Jiju K Baby, a member of the security team, was the victim of the attack, which occurred at 8:30 in the morning.
The incident was triggered by a disagreement over obtaining an Outpatient (OP) ticket, leading to the assault. The assailant has been identified as Sabu, who was subsequently arrested by the Kottarakkara police.
Sabu engaged in a heated argument with the hospital’s security personnel concerning the OP ticket. Following this dispute, Sabu left the hospital but later returned, verbally abused the staff, and physically assaulted them.
During the attack, the accused struck Jiju on the head with a stone. Jiju sustained severe head injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment. Upon being informed of the incident, the police arrived at the scene and took Sabu into custody.
After conducting an interrogation, the police reported that the accused is mentally challenged.
