KASARAGOD: KV Saraswathi, a ward councilor representing the CPI(M) in Kasaragod, has sought support from the BJP to resolve a pathway dispute concerning her residence.
Saraswathi, a prominent member of the CPI(M) and Chairperson of the Health Standing Committee of Kanhangad Municipality, complained that her own party, the CPI(M), is not helping to address the pathway dispute involving her husband’s relatives.
As per her complaint, neighbors have encroached upon the pathway leading from the municipal road to her house, making it too narrow for anything other than walking.
Saraswathi assumed the role of ward councillor for Maduramkai (Ward 25) in Kanhangad Municipality after winning the general seat during the 2015 local body elections. Her dedication to the party led to her appointment as Chairperson of the Health Standing Committee.
Expressing her disappointment, Saraswathi said, “My husband and I have been loyal members of the CPI(M) for decades. We’re like a party family. But when we needed help, the party didn’t support us. What can we do if the organization we believe in lets us down?”
She further revealed that despite filing a complaint with the party, the leadership favored the opposing team in the dispute. By this, she sought assistance from the BJP. “In this situation, I submitted a complaint letter to the BJP. Their leaders visited my residence and accompanied me to the police station to lend their support,” Saraswathi said.
Meanwhile, the BJP Kanhangad president announced that the party has decided to assist the councillor, as her case appears legally sound. A copy of her complaint has also been forwarded to the district committee for further review. In contrast, CPI(M) leaders have expressed their disagreement with Saraswathi’s decision and maintained that they had intervened in her issue on several occasions.
