Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s Health Minister, Veena George, announced on Wednesday that the state has successfully contained the spread of the Nipah virus outbreak, with no new cases reported in the past four days. However, she cautioned that the threat is not entirely eliminated, as four patients are currently undergoing treatment.
Out of 323 samples, 317 have tested negative to date. This signifies a significant achievement in the state’s efforts to control the outbreak. All individuals on the high-risk contact list of the index patient have tested negative for the virus, demonstrating the effectiveness of rigorous testing and contact tracing measures. Currently, the contact list comprises 994 individuals who have been in close proximity to the patients.
Notably, a nine-year-old boy, who was previously in critical condition, is now on the path to recovery. The minister confirmed that he has been successfully taken off oxygen support, bringing hope and relief to his family and well-wishers.
