Kochi: In an electrifying start to the 10th season of the Indian Super League (ISL), the Kerala Blasters emerged victorious with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Bengaluru FC.
The game got off to a dramatic start as Keziah Veendrop of Bengaluru FC unfortunately netted an early self-goal in the second half, serving as the opening goal of the season. Andrea Luna, the star of the evening, came through for the Blasters with an exceptional strike in the 70th minute, further solidifying their lead to 2-0.
However, the game was far from over. Just before the final whistle, Curist Main of Bengaluru FC found the back of the net, narrowing the gap to 2-1. The atmosphere in the stadium grew tense, and the Bengaluru supporters held onto hope for an equalizer.
Throughout the match, the Blasters demonstrated their dominance in possession, holding 56% of the ball. Bengaluru FC, on the other hand, managed to maintain 44% possession, proving their resilience against the Blasters’ onslaught.
Shots on target were aplenty, with the Blasters taking eight shots that tested the Bengaluru goalkeeper, while Bengaluru FC retaliated with seven of their own.
As the seconds ticked away and the Blasters attempted to maintain their lead, Andrea Luna received a yellow card for time-wasting, adding an extra layer of drama to the closing moments of the game.
This victory represents a remarkable turnaround for the Blasters, bouncing back from a narrow defeat they suffered in the previous ISL season semi-final against the same team.
