Hangzhou: The Indian men’s hockey team showcased a dazzling display of skill and prowess as they clinched a resounding 16-1 victory over Singapore in their second Asian Games 2023 Pool A encounter. The thrilling match unfolded at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium in Hangzhou, China, leaving fans in awe of India’s remarkable performance.

India’s goal-scoring spree was led by Mandeep Singh, who secured a sensational hat-trick with goals in the 12th, 30th, and 51st minutes of the match. However, he was not alone in the spotlight, as a host of Indian players contributed to the tally.

Lalit Upadhyay (16′), Gurjant Singh (22′), Vivek Sagar Prasad (23′), Harmanpreet Singh (24′, 39′, 40′, 42′), Manpreet Singh (37′), Samsher Singh (38′), Abhishek (51′, 52′), and Varun Kumar (55′, 56′) joined in the goal-scoring extravaganza, showcasing the depth of talent within the Indian squad.

Muhammad Zaki Bin Zulkarnain (53′) managed to pull one back for Singapore, offering a glimpse of resilience in the face of India’s relentless onslaught.

This emphatic victory has solidified India’s position at the top of the Asian Games 2023 men’s hockey Pool A standings. With the top two teams from each pool advancing to the semi-finals, India is well on track to pursue their goal of clinching another Asian Games gold medal.

India’s return to the playing field saw the influential captain, Harmanpreet Singh, make a significant impact. After sitting out the previous match against Uzbekistan, Singh’s presence provided an extra edge to India’s offense. Right from the start, India asserted dominance, keeping the Singaporean team on the defensive.

The first goal came in the opening quarter when Mandeep Singh redirected a pass from Gurjant Singh, breaking the deadlock. Lalit Upadhyay added to the lead minutes into the second quarter, and the floodgates opened wide. Gurjant Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Harmanpreet Singh, and Mandeep Singh scored in quick succession, concluding the first half with India leading 6-0.

The second half was no less intense, with India relentlessly extending their advantage. Harmanpreet Singh continued his goal-scoring spree, notching up four more goals, while Mandeep Singh secured his hat-trick. India’s relentless pursuit of victory allowed them to net a total of ten goals in the second half.
