Hyderabad, Telangana: A big setback for New Zealand is that captain Kane Williamson will be absent in the opening match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 against England as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.
Despite his return to the 15-member squad for the World Cup after a six-month layoff, Williamson’s absence in the opening clash against England is confirmed. The New Zealand skipper, who is set to play the role of a specialist batter, will be focusing on batting and fielding in the warm-up match against Pakistan scheduled for Friday in Hyderabad.
