Port Moresby: Papua New Guinea experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that there was no significant damage caused by this earthquake.
The epicenter was located 56.6 km southeast of the town of Madang, with a depth of 53 km (33 miles), as stated by the USGS. Additionally, the USGS noted that another earthquake of a similar magnitude occurred off the coast of Madang just minutes apart from the first.
Earthquakes are relatively common in Papua New Guinea, but they rarely result in widespread damage. This is partly because areas outside major cities are sparsely populated, leading to underreporting of damage.
