New Delhi : Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, faced a significant setback when the High Court rejected his plea for the closure of the CBI investigation into his alleged disproportionate assets (DA) case. The court further directed the CBI to complete its investigation and submit the report within three months.
A case against Shivakumar was initiated in October 2020 when it was discovered that there had been an unexplained increase in his assets between 2013 and 2018. The investigation revealed that Shivakumar’s assets had grown fivefold. In 2017, the Income Tax Department’s inspection had revealed illicit wealth associated with Shivakumar. In September 2019, the CBI initiated an investigation into Shivakumar’s alleged illegal acquisition of property valued at Rs 74 crore.
In October 2020, the CBI registered a case against the then Congress MLA DK Shivakumar under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Shivakumar subsequently filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court to contest the allegations against him. However, in April of this year, the single bench of the court rejected Shivakumar’s petition
