DMRC conducts survey for Thiruvananthapuram metro project

Thiruvananthapuram: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started working on a plan for a new metro system in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. Kochi Metro Rail Limited has assigned this task to DMRC. The DCMR has already started to conduct surveys in Pallippuram and Pallichal. This survey covers 41 kilometres in the city, and a comprehensive transport plan and parallel analysis report will be prepared within three months.

The plan suggests that the first phase of the metro rail should go from Pallippuram to Pallichal, and later it should be extended to Neyyattinkara. They will present this plan to the government in January.

They are also looking at things like highways and bypass roads to decide the best route for the metro. At first, they considered Light Metro and Metro Light projects, but they decided to go with a Medium Metro system because it suits the city’s needs better.

They’re also thinking about the future and might extend the first phase to Attingal. They’re planning two routes: one from Pallippuram to Pallichal via Karamana and Nemam, and another from Kazhakkoottam to Killipalam via Eanchakkal. They’re also thinking about more routes like Pallippuram-Mangalapuram (3.7 kilometres) and Eanchakkal-Vizhinjam (14.7 kilometres).
