Kannur: 107 students were spotted from different places under the “Watch the Children” scheme, which was launched by the Kannur police. Police launched this effort after hearing many complaints about students skipping their classes to hang out at beaches, malls, forts, bus stands, and theatres, often involving the use of intoxicating substances.

The special pink police unit has spotted most of the students as part of this initiative. To improve communication, a WhatsApp group was created with school principals, head teachers, women police inspectors, and women pink police officers.

Police reported multiple instances of female students meeting people they connected with on social media, sometimes changing out of their school uniforms to avoid being caught. Earlier, police caught a fifth-standard girl with a plus-two student at a theatre and another girl from Fort, meeting a friend she found on social media.

When the police approach students, they talk to them in a friendly way to make them understand their situation without causing stress. After giving advice to the students and their parents, they send the students home.

The “Watch the Children” plan shows the police’s dedication to keeping students safe and ensuring they attend school and, this project is led by Kannur ACP TK Ratnakumar.
