Ancient chariot wheel believed to be from Mahabharata period unearthed in Odisha’s Arjunaghat

Bhubaneswar: An ancient chariot wheel was discovered in Odisha. A chariot wheel, presumed to be from the Mahabharata period, came from the Khadag River at the sacred site known as Arjunaghat. The exact age of this wheel is yet to be determined.

The round stone artifact, resembling a wheel with a central hole, presumably for axle connection, was stumbled upon by a local resident named Sumanta Nayak while bathing in Arjunaghatt. Nayak called others to bring it to the riverbank.

Arjunaghat has a legendary association with Krishna and Arjuna. It is believed that they had reached this riverside location along the Khadag River. The recent unearthing of the chariot wheel has sparked confirmation of this historical belief. Hundreds of residents from Purunasahi village in K. Nuagaon Block, Kandhamal District, flock to the site for a glimpse and to pay homage to what they believe could be the chariot wheel used by Arjuna during the Mahabharat.
