New York: Diwali was celebrated in New York City. New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Deputy Commissioner of International Affairs Dilip Chauhan participated in the festivities at a Hindu temple in Manhattan. As part of the city’s Diwali celebrations, the iconic Empire State Building adorned itself with radiant orange lights, symbolising the triumph of light over darkness.
Over 1500 devotees gathered at the Manhattan temple to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Diwali. Mayor Adams expressed his delight, sharing with the media that celebrating Diwali was a fantastic experience. Schools across New York were closed for the festivities. Mayor Adams announced that, starting next year, Diwali will officially be recognised as a holiday in schools.
The mayor emphasised that thousands of New Yorkers take part in Diwali celebrations each year, which symbolise hope, positivity, and the triumph of good over evil.
