Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has also reduced the allocated funds for expenses related to Sabarimala duty police. Last year, the Finance Department lowered the budget, explaining that there were unused extra funds. The State Police Chief had asked for money to handle unexpected costs if more pilgrims came. He requested Rs 50 lakh for constituency expenses, but the approval granted was only Rs 20 lakh.
The Finance Department reduced the budget because there weren’t any unforeseen costs in last years, so they thought it wasn’t necessary to give more money. They also want to carefully check the accounts before giving out the funds.
Meanwhile, the state government spends money on unnecessary expenses, and the budget for policemen at Sabarimala is being reduced. The government anticipates a higher influx of devotees this year, surpassing the numbers from the previous year. If there is overcrowding, the currently allocated amount will not be enough for essential needs like emergency relief and food. The government seems to overlook these situations. Despite these pressing situations, the government has yet to address these concerns.
