Amaravati: A fire ravaged more than 25 fishing boats at Visakhapatnam Harbour, causing an estimated loss of Rs 30 crore. The fire broke out around 11:30 pm last night. According to preliminary reports, it reportedly originated from a blaze in the fuel tanks.
The fire began on a few boats and rapidly spread to the fuel tanks of adjacent boats. Firefighters battled tirelessly for hours to bring the flames under control. Evacuation measures were enacted before starting rescue operations due to the risk of potential explosions from the boats’ cylinders.
The fishermen alleged that someone set the fire on purpose. The police said that they would register a case and investigate the incident.
