Mumbai: Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar engaged in a conversation with Keralite cricketer Sanju Samson amidst growing clamour for the player’s exclusion from the Indian team. The Times of India has reported that, on the meeting, Agarkar emphasised that the doors to the Indian team are not closed for the 28-year-old. Despite the anticipation surrounding Samson’s inclusion in the Asia Cup, the return of senior players posed a challenge.
Recent reports indicate that Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar had a meeting with Sanju Samson in Mumbai. During the discussion, Agarkar conveyed to the cricketer that he is not just 100 percent but “200 percent” a part of Bharat’s plans. The selector emphasised the need for Samson to improve his fitness, hinting that fitness concerns might have played a role in his exclusion. Samson currently captains the Kerala team in the Vijay Hazare tournament.
The fans pinned their last hopes on the Australian series, anticipating a stellar performance from the cricket star, but unfortunately, he fell short once again when Jitesh Sharma stepped in as Sanju’s replacement in the team. The discontent led to questioning of the team selection process, with fans drawing comparisons between Sanju’s and other players’ performances.
Samson’s last appearance was during the Ireland tour, and despite featuring in the T20 and ODI series against the West Indies, he failed to meet the selectors’ expectations.
