Kochi: In the aftermath of a tragic stampede during the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) tech fest, the campus is shrouded in grief. The university has declared a day off tomorrow as a mark of mourning. The incident claimed the lives of three second-year engineering students: Athul Thampi from Koothattukulam, Ann Ruftha from North Paravur, and Sara Thomas from Thamarassery.

As a mark of respect, CUSAT has postponed all exams and classes scheduled for tomorrow. Officials have said that the revised dates for the postponed exams will be announced later.

The mortal remains of the three students were brought to the university campus after the completion of autopsies. A public homage ceremony was organized, attended by fellow students, faculty members, and friends who paid their last respects to the departed souls. Meanwhile, 38 people who sustained injuries in the stampede are currently undergoing treatment, with the condition of two individuals reported as critical.

Athul Thampi’s funeral will be held today at Koothattukulam and Sara Thomas’ last rites will be performed on Monday in Kozhikode’s Thamarassery. As AnnRufta’s mother who is working in Italy not reached Kerala, her funeral will be held on Tuesday. Alwin’s last rites will be performed at Mundur in Palakkad on Sunday evening.
