Rio de Janeiro: Ednaldo Rodríguez, the first African-born president of the Brazilian Football Confederation, has been ousted from his position following a court order in Rio de Janeiro. The court canceled the election that made Ednaldo the president and ordered a new governing body to be formed within a month. To ensure the seamless progress of administrative affairs, the court also ordered to find a new governing body within a month.

Ednaldo assumed the presidency in 2022 through an election conducted under an agreement jointly formulated by the Brazilian Football Federation and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The removal of Ednaldo Rodríguez comes as a setback for the Brazilian football team, which is currently facing challenges in the World Cup qualifiers. Moreover, there is a looming threat of FIFA potentially imposing sanctions, including a ban on the Brazilian football team, due to interference in the football federation’s governance.
