Inadequate police presence raises security concerns on Swamy Ayyappan Road to Pamba

Pathanamthitta: Worries emerge as Ayyappa devotees travelling to Sabarimala face lack of security , with only two police officers on duty. The security measure includes just two police officers positioned along Swami Ayyappan Road, overseeing the route from Marakutam to Pampa. There aren’t enough police officers in the forest areas to keep the devotees safe as they come down from the hill through the forest.

Devotees face steep paths while travelling through the forest area. And they are encountering potential dangerous challenges as poisonous snakes and wild animals are widely present in that area. Tragically, a child succumbed to snakebite during the early days of the Mandalam period.

Meanwhile, today, there is a marginal decrease in the number of devotees visiting Sabarimala compared to previous days. However, those making the pilgrimage continue to encounter challenges, especially when boarding KSRTC buses from Nilakkal to Pampa.

Furthermore, two police officers were transferred in response to irregularities in crowd control at Sabarimala . KV Santhosh, formerly posted at Sannidhanam, has been transferred to Nilakkal, while SP Madhusudan has been moved to Pampa. The transfers were initiated based on the recommendation of the South Region IG, following protests against the officials when crowd management became challenging at Sabarimala.
