Idukki district 9th graders without textbooks despite commencement of half-yearly examinations

IDUKKI: Despite the commencement of the Christmas examinations (half-yearly examinations), ninth-grade students in Idukki district are yet to receive their Kerala state board textbooks. The second part of textbooks for subjects such as Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Social Science, and English remains unavailable to the students.

Currently, teachers are conducting classes by using downloaded PDF versions of the textbooks from online sources. However, students, teachers, and parents are expressing concerns about the lack of printed textbooks, compelling students to resort to bringing mobile phones to schools. This situation arises as students find it challenging to follow the classes without mobile phones or laptops.

Allegations have surfaced, suggesting that teachers are not actively pursuing solutions to acquire the necessary textbooks for students. Although teachers are using PDFs for classes, students face difficulties in keeping up without mobile phones or laptops.

Authorities have reported that the shortage of textbooks stems from a reduction in printing due to the upcoming academic year’s revised textbook syllabus. The Idukki District Education Office officials have notified the Kerala Text Book Office in Thiruvananthapuram about the scarcity of textbooks.
