NEW DELHI: With the beginning of second edition of the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam , Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a new train service, the Kashi Tamil Sangamam Weekly Express, connecting Banaras and Kanyakumari. PM Modi highlighted the significance of linking these two vital religious sites in the country.
Additionally, during his visit to the temple town, the Prime Minister launched the second Varanasi-New Delhi Vande Bharat train.
In this regard, a special train is scheduled to depart from Kanyakumari at 5:30 pm today, arriving in Banaras at 11:35 pm on Wednesday.
From December 28th onwards, this train will depart from Kanyakumari to Banaras every Thursday, while the return route will operate from Banaras on every Sundays.
The introduction of the Banaras-Kanyakumari Express aims to facilitate pilgrims from Tamil Nadu visiting Kashi, while also strengthening the cultural ties between the regions. This service will be instrumental for pilgrims heading to the holy cities of Prayagraj, Banaras, Madurai, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Chidambaram, and Kanchipuram.
PM Modi’s visit to his Lok Sabha constituency, Varanasi, took place on December 17 and 18. The second Vande Bharat train comprises 8 coaches, while the first, since its inauguration, has been running with maximum occupancy and consists of 16 coaches.
According to official sources, until now, only the Thiruvananthapuram -Kasaragod route has two Vande Bharat trains.
