Thrissur: The government has called for a meeting to discuss the crisis in conducting Thrissur pooram. The meeting is scheduled to take place at Thrissur Ramanilayam tomorrow evening, under the leadership of Devaswom Minister K Radhakrishnan and Minister K Rajan.
Representatives from the Cochin Devaswom Board, Thiruvambadi Devaswom Board, and Paramekkavu Devaswom Board will participate in the meeting. The crisis to conduct the Thrissur Pooram began when the Cochin Devaswom Board increased the rent for allocating space for the Pooram exhibition, demanding Rs. 2 crore for the land allotment. This significant increase in rent payment, compared to the previous payment of Rs 39 lakh for the Vadakkumnathan temple ground, has caused concern.
The crisis prompted Hindu Aikyavedi to protest against the Cochin Devaswom Board, with the demonstration led by various Hindu organizations. K. P. Sasikala teacher, the president of Hindu Aikyavedi, expressed her disapproval of the Devaswom Board’s decision to restrict Thrissur Pooram to just a ceremony.
