Thrissur: No conclusive decision was taken in the meeting convened by the government to address the ongoing Thrissur Pooram crisis. While the demands of Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu Devaswoms were heard, the government announced that the final decision would be presented to the High Court on January 4. The Devaswoms are urging for the allocation of land without rent, and if the government’s stance is unfavourable during the court proceedings, they plan to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court.

Devaswom Minister K Radhakrishnan and Revenue Minister K Rajan called the meeting in response to protests against the increased ground rent for the Thrissur Pooram exhibition. The discussions concluded without a definitive resolution. The ministers conveyed that a comprehensive solution would be presented to the court on the 4th following consultations at the government level.

During the meeting, representatives from Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu Devaswoms pressed for the concession of land without any charges. Minister K Radhakrishnan assured that there would be no disruption of the Pooram from the government’s side and clarified that no final decision was reached during the discussion. Minister K Rajan emphasised that the Pooram would proceed grandly without hindrance.

TN Prathapan MP, who was present at the meeting, supported the demand to provide the land free of charge for the exhibition. The government made attempts at persuasion amid the strong protests over the incident.
