Thiruvananthapuram: The government of Kerala has announced the formation of a 14-member expert committee tasked with mobilising additional resources. The decision comes in the wake of limited avenues for resource mobilisation after the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST). The committee, headed by the state finance minister, includes experts from the national level.
According to the government directive, it has been revealed that there is a notable surge in expenses within the social sector. The government is now actively seeking inventive methods to secure extra resources for the upcoming 2024–25 budget. The 14-member committee has been appointed to investigate, and they will provide a detailed report.
The committee comprises the following members: Dr. C.P. Chandrasekhar, Head of the Department of Economic Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University; Dr. Indira Rajaraman, Member of the Finance Commission; Dr. Pinaki Chakraborty from the National Institute of Public Finance; Dr. Ashima Goyal from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Studies in Mumbai; C Balagopal representing the Federal Bank; G Vijayaraghavan; Dr. Muralee Thummarukudy; Dr. Debashish Chatterjee; Dr. Suresh Babu; Dr. C Veeramani from CDS; R Mohan; Dr. KM Abraham; Dr. Surajit Das, and Dr. KJ Joseph from GIFT.
