Pune: Renowned classical singer Prabha Atre, breathed her last in Pune on Saturday at the age of 91. The celebrated artist was suffering from breathing issues, prompting her admission to a private hospital on Saturday morning. She reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital.
Prabha Atre, who received the Padmashri in 1990, Padma Bhushan in 2002, and Padma Vibhushan in 2022, was a highly acclaimed classical singer. She was known for her expertise in performing various music forms like khayals, thumris, ghazals, dadri, bhajans, and natyasangeet. Additionally, she made valuable contributions to the field of music as an author, writing books including ‘Swarangini’ and ‘Swaranjanee.’
Prabha Atre was also credited with inventing new Raagas such as ‘Apurva Kalyan,’ ‘Madhur Kauns,’ ‘Darbari Kauns,’ ‘Patdeep-Malhar,’ ‘Shiv Kali,’ ‘Tilang-Bhairav,’ and ‘Ravi Bhairav.’
