Chennai: Popular Tamil film actor and founder President of the All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK), R Sarathkumar, will join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

According to senior leaders of the BJP, discussions with Sarathkumar are at an advanced stage. If he joins the NDA, he is likely to be given the Tirunelveli Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming election.

In 2001, Sarathkumar was made a Rajya Sabha Member by the DMK. Later, in 2006, Sarathkumar and his wife, Radhika Sarathkumar, who is also a popular actress, joined the AIADMK. Then, in 2007, Sarathkumar formed his own political party, AISMK.

In the 2011 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Sarathkumar’s party joined the alliance with the AIADMK, and his party was allotted two seats. His party won in the two assembly constituencies of Tenkasi and Nanguneri.
