Rajkot: Ravichandran Ashwin has surpassed legends Shane Warne and Anil Kumble to become the second fastest bowler to claim 500 wickets in Test cricket in just 98 matches. Ashwin achieved this milestone in the match against England in Rajkot, where he began with a tally of 499 wickets. Taking the crucial wicket of Zach Crawley, which was caught by Rajat Patidar in the 98th over, marked a significant achievement for Ashwin.

The 37-year-old off-spinner’s accomplishment now places him behind only Sri Lankan player Muttiah Muralitharan, who achieved the feat in just 87 matches. Anil Kumble (105), Shane Warne (108), and Glenn McGrath (110) trail behind Ashwin in the list of fastest bowlers to take 500 Test wickets.

Ashwin made his Test cricket debut in 2011 against the West Indies. Initially recognized for his batting skills and medium pace, Ashwin transitioned into a spin bowler after sustaining back pain.
