Thiruvananthapuram: New guidelines have been established for the process of suspending driving licences in the event of violations. Under the revised procedures, alongside police First Information Reports (FIR), the Motor Vehicle Department will now independently investigate cases before taking action.
Previously, licences were suspended solely based on police FIRs. Frequently, when two vehicles are involved in an accident, additional charges and sections are added to the First Information Report (FIR) against the driver of the larger vehicle. In light of these concerns, the Motor Vehicle Department plans to conduct independent investigations into accident cases, aiming to ensure fair assessments.
Moreover, the duration of the licence suspension will be extended based on the severity of the offence, with a minimum suspension period of three months. To reinstate their licences after the suspension period, individuals will be required to adhere to specific procedures.
