Riyadh: Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese football superstar, has been handed a one-match ban in the Saudi Pro League after an incident during the victory celebration after the Al Nasr-Al Shabab match. The star player was found to have made an obscene gesture, reportedly in response to fans chanting “Messi”. Additionally, Ronaldo has been fined Rs 7 lakh as part of the disciplinary action taken by the Saudi Football Federation.
The incident occurred after Al Nassr’s 3-2 victory over Al Shabab in Riyadh, where Al-Shabaab fans’ chanted “Messi, Messi” directing the chant at Cristiano Ronaldo after the match. This led to Ronaldo’s controversial reaction, which has since sparked criticism and prompted an investigation by the federation.
This is not the first time Ronaldo has faced backlash over reactions to fans’ chanting “Messi”. Last year, after a defeat against Al Hilal, Ronaldo expressed strong reactions to similar chants, reflecting his frustration with the situation.
