Bengaluru: B S Yeddyurappa will be sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka at 6 pm today. Yeddyurappa met the Governor on Friday morning to stake claim to form the government. The development comes three days after the JD(S)-Congress coalition government lost a trust vote on the floor of the state legislative Assembly.

“I just met the Governor to form government and take oath as chief minister. The government has agreed and the oath ceremony will take place between 6 and 6.15 pm,” Yeddyurappa said.

The Congress- JD(S) government fell in Karnataka after MLAs rebelled against the government. Yeddyurappa moved hours after the Speaker disqualified three of the 17 rebel MLAs Thursday evening. The coalition government secured only 99 votes against BJP’s 105 in the Karnataka Assembly.

Yeddyurappa will have to prove majority by July 31.
