Thiruvananthapuram: The Kanyakumari district Collector has declared a local holiday for Kanyakumari district on March 12th (Tuesday) in connection with the Mandaikadu Bhagavathy Temple ‘Koda’ festival. It is also informed that April 6th will be a working day instead.
The 10-day annual Koda festival of the famous Mandaikadu Bhagavathy Temple in Kanyakumari district began on March 3rd with the traditional flag-hoisting ceremony (Kodiyettu) in the presence of a huge number of devotees from Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Traditionally, the 10-day festival, known as the ‘Koda festival,’ is observed on the last Tuesday of the ‘Kumbham’ month of the Malayalam calendar.
The principal deity of the temple is Vaishnavism Bhagavathy Amman. It is believed that the sacred deity resides within a massive 15-foot termite mound, which continues to grow.
