New Delhi: Renowned philanthropist and author Sudha Murty took oath as the member of the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, following her nomination by President Droupadi Murmu. The ceremony, held in the Parliament, was graced by the presence of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar and Union Minister Piyush Goyal, with Sudha Murty’s husband and Infosys co-founder, N. R. Narayana Murthy, accompanying her.

Prime Minister Modi took to social media to extend his congratulations to Sudha Murty, praising her significant contributions to various fields, including social work, philanthropy, and education. He emphasized her nomination as a powerful affirmation of women’s empowerment, highlighting the strength and potential of women in shaping the nation’s future.

In response to her nomination, Sudha Murthy expressed both happiness and a sense of heightened responsibility. “I’m happy, at the same time I feel I have been given more responsibility. I’ll work my level best. On a personal level, I am happy that I’m getting a bigger platform to work for the poor,” she remarked, underscoring her commitment to serving the marginalized sections of society.
