In spite of the intense speculations and avoidance of limelight ever since his legal battle, actor Johnny Depp’s film ‘Jeanne Du Barry’ finally premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was met with a 7-minute standing ovation from the audience after seeing a stellar performance from Depp.

As per reports from Variety, Depp was taken aback by the reception he received from the audience and waved at them from the balcony. The film is a biographical drama that depicts the scandalous life of Madame Jeanne Du Barry, and how she used her intellectual skills to get higher in the social ladder. Johnny Depp plays the character of King Louis XV in the film.

The film is directed by French actress Maїwenn who also co-stars in it. She also expressed her gratitude to the journey of the film and that she wishes to share this reception with her crew.

This is the first film of Depp’s to release after the long and strenuous legal battle he had to face with ex-wife Amber Heard. The couple, who divorced in 2018, went into a defamation battle after Heard alleged that Depp was an abusive spouse. The speculations caused the actor to be avoided from multiple projects including productions of Warner Brothers and Disney. This led to Depp filing a defamation case against her, which reached a verdict on 31 May, 2022. The verdict claimed that Amber Heard was guilty of the charges and a fine of $15 million was imposed on her.
