Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic dialogue in “Jawan” was an impromptu addition, reveals the script writer

Mumbai: Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film “Jawan”, directed by Atlee, has taken Bollywood by storm, and a significant part of its success can be attributed to an iconic dialogue that wasn’t initially part of the script. The famous line, “Bete ko hath lagane se pehle, baap se baat kar” (Before touching the son, deal with the father), captured the hearts of Shah Rukh’s fans and became a defining moment in the action-packed entertainer.

A report said, Sumit Arora, the dialogue writer for “Jawan,” revealed that the now-famous dialogue was not in the original script but was incorporated into the film on the day of the shoot. This spontaneous addition turned out to be a pivotal moment in the movie, resonating deeply with the audience.

“It’s a story that will make you believe in the magic of moviemaking.” That line was never there in our original draft. The ‘moment’ where SRK sir’s character says the line was always there, and we all knew that it was a powerful moment even without a dialogue. But while shooting, it was felt that there should be a line, that this guy should say something,” Arora explained.

Numerous fans on social media have drawn connections between the dialogue and the real-life events surrounding the arrest of the superstar’s son, Aryan Khan, in the drugs-on-cruise case in October 2021. Aryan was granted bail after a 25-day stint in jail and was subsequently cleared of all charges.

As Arora recalled, he was present on set and was summoned to provide a suitable line for the scene. Without hesitation, the words “bete ko hath lagane se pehle, baap se baat kar” flowed from his mouth, encapsulating the essence of the moment. Director Atlee and Shah Rukh Khan himself recognised the impact of the line and decided to include it in the film.

The film delves into various social and political issues, presenting a compelling narrative that resonates with audiences across India.

“Jawan,” presented by Red Chillies Entertainment, has raked in a staggering Rs 600 crore in global box office earnings. The film is produced by Gauri Khan and co-produced by Gaurav Verma.

The unexpected success of the dialogue has taken both the writer and the film’s team by surprise. “The way SRK sir delivered it gave us goosebumps. But we never thought that that line would become such a huge hit and resonate with people in this way. As a writer, you can only write a line, but its destiny goes on to write itself,” Arora expressed.

Sumit Arora is currently working on a diverse range of projects, including Kabir Khan’s “Chandu Champion,” featuring Kartik Aaryan, and an Indian version of “Citadel,” directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna.
