Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Rakesh Roshan’s 2003 film “Koi Mil Gaya,” starring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta, is set to return to theatres as a re-release. This pioneering sci-fi movie introduced the concept of aliens to Indian cinema. The heartwarming story revolves around a young man named Rohit, portrayed by Hrithik Roshan, who forms a bond with an alien named Jadoo through his late father’s invention. As their friendship blossoms, Rohit discovers newfound extraordinary abilities.

Reflecting on the film’s journey, director Rakesh Roshan highlighted how Koi Mil Gaya emerged as a game-changer for Hrithik Roshan’s career. Prior to its release, there were doubts about Hrithik’s potential beyond his debut success in “Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai.” The film’s triumph validated Hrithik’s talent and dedication to his craft. Rakesh Roshan acknowledged the risks involved in introducing a sci-fi concept featuring an alien but found immense satisfaction in the audience’s response, which solidified his commitment to diverse storytelling and genre experimentation.

The re-release of Koi Mil Gaya is scheduled for August 4, 2023. Rakesh Roshan acknowledged the film’s enduring legacy in contemporary conversations, including its presence in digital spaces, pop culture references, and online memes. The movie continues to captivate audiences through recreations of iconic dialogues, allusions to the character Jaadoo, and internet memes related to memorable moments from the film.

Rakesh Roshan directed and produced Koi Mil Gaya under his FilmKraft Production banner. The cast includes Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Rekha, Johnny Lever, Rajat Bedi, and Prem Chopra, as well as child artists Hansika Motwani and Anuj Pandit Sharma in significant roles. Beyond its initial success, Koi Mil Gaya also served as a foundation for India’s first superhero film franchise, “Krrish.” This franchise showcases a unique multi-genre narrative that seamlessly connects characters and storylines across its various instalments.
