New Delhi: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has revealed a 34-member list of probables for the Senior Indian Women’s Football Team, all set to compete in the AFC Olympic Qualifiers Round 2 later this year. The talented squad, fondly known as the “Blue Tigresses,” will commence their training camp in Bhubaneswar from July 30 onwards.
Group C of the AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifiers will see India pitted against formidable opponents Japan, Vietnam, and hosts Uzbekistan. The exciting matches are scheduled to take place between October 26 and November 1 at the JAR Stadium and the Bunyodkor Stadium in Tashkent.
In a significant feat earlier this year, the Blue Tigresses showcased their prowess and secured qualification for Round 2 of the Olympics Qualifiers by overwhelming the Kyrgyz Republic with impressive victories of 5-0 and 4-0.
The selection includes a promising mix of goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards, each ready to demonstrate their talent and passion for the sport.
The list of goalkeepers set to participate in the training camp comprises Sowmiya Narayanaswamy, Maibam Linthonigambi Devi, and Shreya Hooda. These exceptional shot-stoppers will be crucial in safeguarding the team’s goal during the intense competition.
In the defensive line-up, the team boasts seasoned players such as Loitongbam. Ashalata Devi, Ngangbam Sweety Devi, Sanju, Ritu Rani, and Sorokhaibam Ranjana Chanu, Michel Margaret Castanha, Dalima Chhibber, Manisa Panna, Astam Oraon, Juli Kishan, Shilky Devi, and Jabamani Tudu Their expertise and skill will be essential in thwarting opponents’ attacks and building a robust defence.
The midfield will be orchestrated by talented players like Priyanka Devi, Anju Tamang, Indumathi Kathiresan, Sangita Basfore, Kajol Hubert Dsouza, Asem Roja Devi, and Karthika Angamuthu. Their creative flair and strategic play will be vital in controlling the game’s tempo and facilitating seamless transitions.
The forward line will be led by experienced players including Dangmei Grace, Soumya Guguloth, Manisha Kalyan, Apurna Narzary, Neha, Sumati Kumari, Renu, Karishma Purushottam Shirvoikar, Sandhiya Ranganathan, Pyari Xaxa, Jyoti, and Ngangom Bala Devi. Their attacking prowess and goal-scoring abilities will be instrumental in taking on strong defences and securing crucial goals for the team.
The coaching staff, headed by Thomas Dennerby as the Head Coach, comprises Anthony Samson Andrews as Coach, Maymol Rocky as Assistant Coach, and Ronibala Chanu as Goalkeeping Coach. With their guidance and expertise, the players are bound to be well-prepared and motivated to face the upcoming challenges in the AFC Olympic Qualifiers.
