Raksha Bandhan- A bond of protection… Make these 8 promises to your sisters!

The expression “Raksha Bandhan,” in Sanskrit literally means “the bond of protection, obligation, or care.” It is a ritual of assurance of protection given to sisters by their brothers. Raksha Bandhan is observed on the last day of the Hindu lunar calendar month of Shravana, which typically falls in August.

On this day, sisters of all ages tie a talisman, or amulet, called the rakhi or raksha, around the wrists of their brothers, symbolically protecting them, receiving a gift in return, and traditionally investing the brothers with a share of the responsibility of their potential care.

On this very special occasion, make these eight promises to your sisters:

1. I will protect you- from the evils of the society however, by not confining her inside the four walls. When she wants me to shield her, I will always be there.

2. I will guide you – I will guide my sister for the best opinion in terms of her life and career by gaining maximum knowledge about her field of interest and passing it on to her in a respectable manner.

3. I will never hit you- No matter what the situation is- I have better ways of teaching her what she needs to learn.

4. Will respect your privacy- My sister is an individual and I ought to respect her individuality and privacy.

5. Swear to keep the secrets- She will be my secret keeper and so will I.

6. Not leave you alone – I will hold on to her even in the worst of situations.

7. Bond that never breaks- She will get married and so will I but the bond shall always remain the same.

8. No judgement- I will never judge her for the behaviour of any of the extended relations.
