When you feel irritated, sad, empty, loss of interest, it seems that you are trying to fight the mood disorder called Depression.

Depression is a mood disorder and can be described as feelings of sadness, loss, or anger that triggers in a person in his or her everyday activities. One may actually feel lost in the world. But depression is experienced in different ways to the people.

It’s actually normal to feel low and sad in our life. But continuous triggering of feeling down and hopeless leads to depression. Major depression symptoms can either affect mood or body. You will be wanting to get up from the bed early morning but it does not help you to start your daily activities.

Depression may be experienced on symptoms based on mood, emotional well-being, behaviour, cognitive abilities, sleep patterns and physical well-being.

Depression is a serious mental health illness and if not rectified, will lead to complications such as weight gain or loss, physical pain, panic attacks, relationship problems, social isolation, thoughts of suicide or self harm.

There are two types of depression : Major depressive disorder and Persistent depressive disorder.

Major depressive disorder most severe form of depression. Prolong feelings of sadness, hopelessness and worthlessness that don’t go away can be characterized by this depression.

The milder yet chronic form of depression is the Persistent depressive disorder. One may lose interest in normal daily activities, feel hopeless, lack productivity and have low-self-esteem.

How can you overcome Depression?

1. Change your lifestyle to handle depression. Regular exercise is effective which will boost brain chemicals such as serotonin, endorphins and shall trigger the growth of new brain cells and connections.

2. Be with your family and friends. Never become isolated as isolation will make you ponder over problems again and again. Engage in some or the other activities to keep your mind engaged.

3. Nutrition is also one such key factor to boost your mind. Eat well for both physical and mental health.

4. Sleep for about minimum of 8 hours. When you lack sleep, depression symptoms will be worse. Sleep deprivation exacerbates irritability, moodiness, sadness, and fatigue.

5. Medication cannot guarantee you to cure underlying problems but it may help relieve some of the symptoms.
