New Delhi: The Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh felicitated the medal winners of the 17th World Police & Fire Games held at Los Angeles, California, USA from August 7-16, 2017. He was the chief guest in the function organized by All India Police Sports Control Board to felicitate the medal winners, here today.

The 101-member Indian Police contingent returned with a record breaking haul of 321 medals from the 17th World Police & Fire Games. The contingent bagged 151 Gold, 99 Silver and 71 Bronze medals in the seven events they participated in the Games. It is a rarest of the rare occasion where each team member won a medal irrespective of individual or relay events in which they participated.

During the felicitation function of 2015 World Police & Fire Games on August 7, 2015, the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had mentioned that the Indian Police Contingent must come back with not less than 300 medals in 2017 World Police & Fire Games and the target was achieved successfully.

In these games, about 8,000 and more sportspersons from 68 countries from all over the world took part in about 83 events whereas Indian Police contingent participated only in seven sports events i.e. Athletics, Archery, Wrestling, Boxing, Judo, Swimming & Shooting and gave their best performance breaking earlier records. The Union Home Minister said the Government has raised the Prize money for the Medal Winners. An amount of Rs. 50,000/- has been sanctioned for winners of Gold medal, Rs. 45,000/- for Silver and Rs. 40,000/- for Bronze medals along with a certificate of participation in each event (Individual & Relay events).

Addressing the athletes on the occasion, Rajnath Singh encouraged the Police sports persons to double the medals tally during the next World Police & Fire Games at Chengdu, China next year.

The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, the Director, Intelligence Bureau, Rajiv Jain and senior officials of Intelligence Bureau, Police Forces and AIPSCB attended the felicitation ceremony.
